'500 ke do papad le lo' - a hawker in Sarojini Nagar shocked customers by asking for Rs 500 for something that does not cost more than Rs 20. Though he seemed to be doing this only to attract people, it wasn't far from reality at the three biggest flea markets of the city after the ban on Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes was announced. With the sudden demonetization, bargaining took a back seat in these markets as the prices of most of the items in Sarojini Nagar, Janpath and Lajpat Nagar seemed to rise rapidly to the fixed price of Rs 500.
